Description

J. Marshall Crawford’s Mosby and His Men told the story of the Confederacy’s Grey Ghost only two years after the war.

Written by a member of Company B of Mosby’s Forty-third Battalion of Virginia Cavalry; Mosby’s daring exploits were legendary during the war, and his reputation only grew with the early postwar publications.

This copy of the scarce first edition of Mosby and His Men makes a perfect gift for the collector of the Confederacy, Virginia, or cavalry since it is expertly rebound in leather with marbled boards and end pages, gilt lettering, gilt devices, and faux raised spine.

Text is lightly toned, as one would expect, but largely free of foxing.

A brilliant example of the bookbinder’s art!

Crawford, J. Marshall. MOSBY AND HIS MEN: A RECORD OF THE ADVENTURES OF THAT RENOWNED PARTISAN RANGER, JOHN S. MOSBY… New York: J. W. Carleton & Co., 1867. 1st edition, 375(8)p., frontispiece. (Howes C-871).
