Description

John Y. Simon and Barbara Hughett compiled The Continuing Civil War: Essays in Honor of the Civil War Round Table of Chicago in 1992.

The Chicago organization is officially titled The Civil War Round Table with no place name added because it was the first round table founded, and it was the inspiration for all other Civil War round tables since – an international movement. The symposium celebrating the Round Table’s fiftieth anniversary was held October 12-14, 1990, in Northbrook, Illinois. Many of the leading Civil War historians of the 20th Century spoke at the symposium and their essays are memorialized in this volume.

While all the essays are interesting and scholarly, Ralph Newman’s memoir of the history of the Round Table now carries particular historical relevance, noting that a Civil War veteran once attended, another member served in the Spanish-American War under General James Harrison Wilson, and two were born before Abraham Lincoln died.

This copy is signed by editor John Simon. Bud Robertson inscribes and signs by his essay; Gary Gallagher bookplate is pasted-in.

A wonderful keepsake of a great and continuing Civil War Round Table.

Near fine condition; with former owner’s name on flyleaf.
