Description

Leo Cherne was an American sculptor, economist, attorney, humanitarian, public servant, and advisor to nine U.S. presidents. In 1955, he created this rugged bust of President Abraham Lincoln. It is based on a photograph taken in 1865, (O-116).

Cherne’s works have been exhibited in prominent museums and institutions, including the Smithsonian, the National Portrait Gallery, and the White House — it has graced the credenzas of Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon, G. W. Bush, Clinton and others.  This has continually been one of the most popular of the Alva reproductions (before they went out of business in the 1990s).

This bust is a rich and deep brown color. I would call it espresso.

Cherne, Leo. NY: Alva Reproductions. “Abraham Lincoln” Plaster Bust signed “1955 Leo Cherne” on the collar.  10 ½” high, 4 ½” base.
