Description
This carte de visite of the Lincoln Springfield home (O-38) was taken by J.A. Whipple, in the summer of 1860. The carte features Lincoln and Willie clearly visible with Tad hiding behind the fence post. Two neighbors are on the sidewalk. Other photos from this series identify the young man on the sidewalk as a Lincoln children playmate, Isaac Diller.
The back mark identifies the photograph as “The late Residence of President Lincoln, Springfield, IL.
The Whipple photographs were instrumental when the National Park Service renovated the home in 1955, as well as later renovations.
A little light, with minor soiling and toning.
