Description
George Yostel based this statuette on Paul Manship’s The Hoosier Youth. A very young Abraham Lincoln seems to be taking a break from splitting rails. Lincoln holds an axe and a book in his right hand, and pats his canine companion with his left hand.
This statuette was created for and awarded to only a few of the salespeople at the Lincoln National Insurance Company. We have sold this version previously, but this is the first one we have handled that includes a label that details the circumstances of the creation.
A less-seen version of Lincoln; a handsome addition to your bookshelf. Plus there’s a dog!
Cast in matte bronze, signed Geo. Yostel, with copyright symbol and marked “SC” Latin for sculpsit, losely translating “he made it.”
Very Good, some minor spotting, good patina!
(Lincoln, Abraham). Yostel George. Seated Lincoln Statuette. Cincinnati, OH, 1971, Gordon B, Miller & Co. 9 3/4″ tall x 3″ wide at base.
