Description

Frederick Volck created this stunning bust of Leee in 1863, at Richmond, VA.

Volck was born in Germany, as a young man he moved to Virginia where he was employed by the Confederate Naval Ordnance and Hydrography Department. His brother Adalbert, a satirist and caricaturist, was also actively involved in the Confederacy. 

In excellent condition, this bust is the deepest shade that black can be. There is a matching Ulysses S. Grant version, too. 

Signature and inscription read “Frederick Volck, 1863 Richmond, Virginia” at rear. Titled “Robert E. Lee” at base; mounted to a round beveled granite base.
