Description

Alfred Roman’s The Military Operations of General Beauregard is an “approved” biography of the great creole Confederate.

Roman provides a laudatory appraisal from the point of view of a staff officer, with portions of the narrative written by Beauregard himself. In fact, so much of the text is quoted from Beauregard’s correspondence that much of these volumes serve as memoir for practical purposes. Roman/Beauregard provides carefully detailed arguments analyzing his experiences and decisions. His accounts of important events from Fort Sumter to Manassas to Shiloh serve as crucial primary accounts of those actions.

Lightly water damaged in both volumes with stains on end pages; very light foxing and usual toning; light chipping of extremities; else very good. Previous owner’s bookplate pasted-in; original owner’s (1884) signature in both volumes. Signature in volume 2 bleeds through to frontispiece.
