To Dr Dillon, who is a friend of the world, but who understands the world,

from

Theodore Roosevelt

During the last few years of his life, TR was engaged in many literary pursuits. Though Samuel Johnson called autograph seekers “the mosquitoes of literature,” TR seemed kind to most, as this sentiment attests.

“Dr. Dillon” could be E. J. Dillon, a well recognized authority on Russian affairs–political, literary, commercial, and social. Dillon also wrote extensively about the 1919 Peace Conference.
