Rev. Jesse Head Gets His Monument

Description

The distinguished Lincolnian William E. Barton delivered the address The Man Who Married Lincoln’s Parents at the dedication to a monument to Reverend Jesse Head and Jane Ramsey Head in Harrodsburg, Kentucky in 1922.

At the time this headstone was dedicated over the previously unmarked grave controversies over the legitimacy of Thomas and Nancy Lincoln’s marriage were only recently resolved. The proof of the June 12, 1806, wedding officiated by Reverend Head was a mystery even to Abraham Lincoln in his lifetime.

This century-old pamphlet is in remarkable good condition with no chipping and the original binding string in very good condition. It was folded at some point, but without any crease, only lightly warped. The original cut photo of the monument is still pasted firmly to the cover, although it is lightly creased with corners turning up. Very good condition overall and signed by the author on the cover.
