Description

William Elsey Connelley originally wrote Quantrill and the Border Wars in 1909 from the point of view of a Kansan, and the biography is rich with the current memory of Quantrill’s atrocities. Hardly impartial, Connelley seemed to be writing a corrective to the romanticized memories of John Edwards and Frank James. This is a crucial volume on the history of the border wars.

Homer Croy’s introduction is wonderful. “About the politest term Connelley applies to Quantrill is ‘gory monster’; after that he gets personal… No one could say that Connelley was impersonal; he hated Quantrill and he was going to belt his bones around”.

Light chipping of dust jacket with minor (1 inch) tear; Lightly rubbed; lightly toned; else very good; signed by Homer Croy.
