R.E. Lee’s Life by His Nephew

Description
Fitzhugh Lee wrote General Lee for Appleton’s Great Commanders series in 1894. This biography of Robert E. Lee by his nephew is impressively thorough. While we should assume that a life by an admiring loved one would be uncritical, Fitz Lee’s accounts are detailed and valuable for an understanding of Lee, the Civil War, and the operations of the Army of Northern Virginia. Fitz Lee publicly solicited Confederate veterans to contribute anecdotes to the book, and Edward Porter Alexander was among those who wrote to share stories. The Large Paper Edition is limited to one thousand copies, of which this is thirty.
Quite uncommon. Lightly soiled with rubbing on spine label; lightly soiled boards; owner’s bookplate detached; else very good. Bookplate for Historian Edwin B. Coddington.
