Description

The Carte de Visite was originally created by Samuel L. Fassett, at his studio in Chicago, on 4 October 1859. Originally by the “salted” method, but here transformed into the newly introduced albumen process – the first paper photograph for which Lincoln sat.  

This photo was used extensively  during the 1860 presidential campaign. Fassett also has the distinction of being the individual who took the most-often seen photograph of the hearse used for Lincoln’s Chicago funeral. 

An excellent, deep tonality highlights the clarity of Lincoln’s clean-shaven face, his eyes intensely penetrating.  A truly choice Lincoln photograph!  Excellent; unblemished; rounded corners.
