Offering an 1860 Campaign Cover (postally used) featuring Abraham Lincoln.
Abraham Lincoln’s 1828 journey to New Orleans on a flatboat took became legendary as his star rose in the political arena. The journey opened his eyes to the role of transportation, commerce, and slavery. It was in New Orleans were Lincoln observed his first slave auction.
This cover, addressed to a Mary B. Fish of Schoolcraft, Michigan, bears a CDS for “Sep. 4” and a Geo. Washington 3-cent stamp. This was the first stamp to have perforations. Prior to that, one had to cut the stamps with scissors.
Toned edges, else very good.
