Description

General Mark Wayne Clark recalled his experiences as the American commander in World War II Italy in Calculated Risk. His account is outspoken and informal in his frank description of Italian operations.

While Clark’s blunt personality shows in his writing the story is one of uncommon adventure compared to the memoirs of other senior American commanders. Clark engaged in secret missions including a pre-invasion submarine trip to occupied North Africa, he commanded his forces from the front in intense battles, and he was central to the decision making that led to the destruction of the ancient abbey at Monte Cassino.

Always controversial and entertaining, Clark’s memoir is among the crucial primary sources on World War II.

Very good in lightly worn dust jacket, chipped at headband with slight loss. This copy inscribed and signed by General Clark “To: Robert W. Kendler / With Best Wishes / (signed) / Nov. 10, 1950.”
