A Tough-to-Find Campaign Biography

Description

Henry Raymond and John Savage’s The Life of Abraham Lincoln of Illinois is a political biography of Lincoln, written by the chairman of the National Union Committee.

The front wrapper has a woodcut illustration of Lincoln after Brady’s photograph of 8 January 1864 (O-83); Andrew Johnson graces the rear wrapper.

Though rubbed with very small chips, complete wrappers are quite scarce; a round stamp on the front reveals that it was once in the library of the “Ben Butler Council No. 1″of the Union League of America. Even with stains on the fore-edge and the wrappers toned, this is an above-average copy of a desirable campaign biography.
