This print of the Inaugural Address of Abraham Lincoln, March 4, 1865 is only the 2nd copy we have found. The other resides in the Library of Congress.
Only 41 days before his assassination, President Abraham Lincoln took the oath of office for the second time. Lincoln’s second inaugural address previewed his plans for healing a once-divided nation. Some of most moving and poignant words ever spoke close the speech.
“With malice toward none with charity for all with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right let us strive on to finish the work we are in to bind up the nation’s wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan ~ to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.”
The metallic ink that fills the letters of Lincoln’s name is seldom seen during this era. It was an expensive choice and would have been an impressive feature of this print.
Water tiding at the top and bottom does not diminish the import of this handsome lithograph w/ colors still vibrant. Printed while Lincoln was alive, showing its immediate import to the public.
