The Best of Sam Houston Biographies

Description

The Raven: A Biography of Sam Houston by Marquis James is  a Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Sam Houston. The title details Houston’s life from his youth among the Cherokee (the people who assigned the moniker “The Raven”) to his roles as general, congressman, governor and the President of the Republic of Texas. Published in 1929, the book covers his pivotal role in the Texas Revolution, his complex views on slavery, and his ultimate opposition to secession, which led to his political downfall. Marquis Jones was awarded his first Pulitzer Prize for The Raven. He would receive another for Andrew Jackson: The Border Captain.

A very good, solid book, with only a black marker line on the flyleaf, and a “Clark School” stamp on the inside back board. The tough-to-find dust jacket has some sunning, flaking, edge wear, with a small tear near the bottom. We have added a mylar cover. A solid copy of a tough-to-find book about a complicated man.
