Description
Letters of a Confederate Surgeon are the letters of Junius Newport Bragg of Arkansas. The collection is an excellent and very scarce Trans-Mississippi resource.
Bragg, a descendant of Jamestown hero Christopher Newport, served in the 11th and 33rd Arkansas. The letters to his wife are fulsome, romantic, and revealing of Bragg’s feelings and experiences. Included is a post-war recollection of the 1864 campaign and battle of Jenkins Ferry.
Light foxing; light water stain; light wear at extremities; else very good. Signed and dated by Helen Bragg Gaughan, author of the foreword.
