Description

Jefferson C. Davis’ speech Remarks of General Jeff. C. Davis, Made in Response to the Toast “The Army of the Cumberland,” at the Reunion of the Society of the Army of the Tennessee, at Indianapolis, Indiana, October 31st, 1878, is particularly interesting because this copy is signed by the famously volatile Union general. It includes biographical information, tipped-in, on the general and on owner General Edward S. Fowler of New York City.

Inscribed and signed by Jefferson C. Davis, with the library stamp of Fowler, including his home address at Graham Court apartments in Harlem – a famous residence that still stands, and has been the home of many prominent African American artists and performers, such as actors Danny Glover and Marcella Lowrey.

A collectible artifact signed by the original “General Reb” – The Union “Jefferson Davis” who was best known for murdering a fellow Union general and getting away with it! Jeff C. Davis served in Nashville and commanded troops at Stones River and Chickamauga, as well as many other battles.
