Description
Chicago was the Lincoln Funeral train’s stop before it’s final destination, Springfield, IL. This rare carte, taken by Chicago photographer Samuel Fasset, shows Lincoln’s hearse standing underneath a magnificent gothic arch . This arch was erected on the lakefront, it’s purpose was to greet the funeral train. Officials and 36 young women stand next to it, waiting to march to the Court House for viewing. A boy sits on a fence staring into the camera.
A desireable and scarce carte, with excellent tonality and clarity.
