Description

The mid-1860s saw a boon in photographic campaign items. Ferrotypes, also known as tintypes, were one of the earliest forms of photography.  These pictures on tin or iron, framed with metal or housed in Thermoplastic cases, were quick and inexpensive to manufacture. The hole in the top would have been for a ribbon, so the person wearing it could fasten it to their clothing.

This ferrotype features George McClellan on one side and his running mate George Pendleton on the other side. Each have their name above them. The words “Union / Consitiutional Laws / & Flag are embossed in the border surrounding the candidates.

Very Good; the images have good contrast both sides has some minor image loss-none either face, nice patina. Photograph is enlarged to better show the details.

(1864 Campaign) Ferrotype featuring ferrotypes of McClellan one side and Pendleton on the verso. 1 7/8″.
