Lincoln & Herndon Law Office Advertisement

Description

Offering the March 17, 1859 edition of the Daily Illinois State Journal, containing an advertisement for the firm of Lincoln and Herndon.

The front page has extensive advertising, including that of Lincoln’s law firm. Nearby are other ads for other lawyers, including Lincoln’s law mentor and first partner, John Stuart; his second law partner, Stephen Logan; and his “best man,” James Matheny. Other Springfield notables include William J, Conkling who served as Illinois Republican Chairman; and S. M. Cullom who studied law with Lincoln and later served as Governor and a long-serving U.S. Senator from Illinois.

On page 3 are topical and current news: stories against Stephen Douglas James Buchanan, plus one on the “Dresses of the Parisian Ladies”, some of which have “reached more than the limits of propriety.”

This is a great gift for an attorney!

Excellent; usual central fold.
