Description

Offering the June 7, 1859 edition of the Daily Illinois State Journal, containing an advertisement for the firm of Lincoln and Herndon.

The front page has extensive advertising, including that of Lincoln’s law firm. Nearby are other ads for other lawyers, including Lincoln’s law mentor and first partner, John Stuart, and his “best man,” James Matheny. Other Springfield notables include William J, Conkling who served as Illinois Republican Chairman; and S. M. Cullom who studied law with Lincoln and later served as Governor and a long-serving U.S. Senator from Illinois.

Lincoln was unexpectedly in Chicago on the 7th of June. In fact, he missed a court date and the judge ruled for the plaintiff. On the 14th of June Lincoln filed an affidavit attesting to that fact.

Other ads include a saddle and harness manufacturer, homeopathic medicines and practitioners, pickles, figs, spices, wine, and cheese. Everything a frontier family could want and more!

This is a great gift for an attorney!

Excellent; usual central fold; sealed in a plastic sleeve, easily removed for framing.

(Newspaper) DAILY ILLINOIS STATE JOURNAL, June 7, 1859 Large folio; 4p.  Contains a small (2-1/2″ x ½”) front-page ad for the law firm of “Lincoln & Herndon / Attorneys and Counsellors at Law.  Will practice in the Courts of Law and Chancery in this state. — Springfield, Ills.”
