Description

Charles F. Walcott’s History of the Twenty-First Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers records the history of a famous Bay State unit.

This is a detailed account of the service of a IX Corps regiment. Originally selected for the Burnside Expedition to Roanoke Island, the regiment served throughout the war at 2nd Manassas, Antietam, and the Overland campaign, and elsewhere. As part of the brigade of General Jesse Reno, killed at South Mountain, the veterans were particularly proud of their association with him.

This copy is inscribed and signed by the author to Jesse W. Reno, son of the martyred general, and himself inventor of first working escalator.

Hinges cracking; light chipping of the extremities; light green stain on spine; light rubbing; bump; else very good.

A fascinating association!
