Description

Edwards Pierrepont made the case in Argument of Hon. Edwards Pierrepont to the Jury, on the Trial of John H. Surratt for the Murder of Abraham Lincoln that Surratt, the last of the Lincoln conspirators to be apprehended, should be held accountable for Lincoln’s assassination.

Surratt had been at large for a long time, ultimately being tracked down in Egypt. By 1867 the public passion following the assassination had subsided. Surratt’s trial ended in a hung jury and the government did not refile charges.

A scarce pamphlet in the original wrappers.

Wrappers repaired with tape & chipping at the extremities; text very good.
