Description

Frederick Woodbridge printed this fascinating report on the discovery and arrest of the John Surratt. John Surratt was son of Mary Surratt. John escapes arrest and the fate of the other assassination conspirators by fleeing to Canada and then to Europe.

Eighteen months after his mother was hanged, he was arrested in Egypt–dressed as a Papal zouave–and returned to stand trial for his alleged involvement in Lincoln’s assassination. He was acquitted–having not had a military trial, and denying any knowledge of the assassination plot. He immediately went out on the lecture circuit to make money!

Disbound;  lt. edge discoloration on rear blank; but clean, very good, and quite scarce.
