Description

Offering a John Wilkes Booth carte de visite. Created by Norton and Luther, in Cleveland Ohio in 1864. Norton and Luther also photographed the Lincoln Funeral in Cleveland, Ohio. This is a rare photograph in this format. It is more commonly seen in a Cabinet Card format. We have not seen it in over 50 years of selling Lincoln-related material.

From the year Booth and his brothers, Edwin and Junius, all performed together in Julius Caesar. It would be the only time the three would appeared together in a play.

Minor soiling and edgewear, disturbed emulsion and scratches at top; back has soiling and edge bending. No backmark.

Booth, John Wilkes. Carte de Visite (Gutman 31), circa 1864; originally photographed by Norton & Luther, Cleveland, OH.
