Description

The Hutchinson Family Singers were an American family singing group,  popular in American entertainers during the 1840s. The group sang in four-part harmony. Their a repertoire included political, social, comic, sentimental and dramatic songs. They are considered the first American popular music performers.

They spent almost the entire year of 1845 touring England with Frederick Douglas. By 1860, the group had split into two factions, both calling themselves The Hutchinson Family Singers.

This rare songster contains approximately 50 election songs plus the Republican platform.  Some of the song titles are: Abe of Illinois; Hope for the Slave; I Spurn the Bribe; and The Fugitives.

Excellent; probably the nicest copy we’ve handled.  Quite uncommon in the market today.
