Description

On the Trail of a Spanish Pioneer. The Diary and Itinerary of Francisco Garces… was the last publication of philosopher, ornithologist, and historian Elliot Coues. The multi-talented Coues was fascinated by the early explores of the North American Southwest and edited and translated many original manuscripts.

The journal of the intrepid Franciscan missionary whose explorations in the Southwest prompted the Anza expedition and the opening of the Mojave Trail. The journal is ably translated by Coues, and it remains an excellent source of information on both the country and the native peoples that Garces observed.

Original blue cloth with gilt-lettered spine; rough cut pages with deckled edges. Very light shelf wear; light rubbing; else very good. Bright!
