H.J. Kilpatrick, Signed Carte de Visite

Description

Offering a carte de visite of H. Judson Kilpatrick. He earned the nickname “Kill Cavalry” for his fearless aggression. His own troops called him that, because he was willing to destroy his soldiers as well and their horses. Suicide missions were not uncommon. His gleeful plunder during Stoneman’s raid is legendary.

This is a standing portrait of the subject, wielding an impressive weapon. The  back includes a statement “taken while on the Richmond raid.” It bears a Brady backmark; it has a paper tape remnant at the bottom.

Carte is Very Good, with moderate soiling and toning; Signature is bold.
