Jules Edouard Roine, Abraham Lincoln Centennial, Copper Plaquette

Art Nouveau Honors the Lincoln Centennial

Description
Lincoln is seated (on the obverse), knees crossed, signing a document with a quill (sic), presumably the Emancipation Proclamation. On the left, the winged angel Fame places a wreath on Lincoln’s head, while her left hand holds an olive branch. The reverse is blank.
Roine, perhaps, is best known in the Lincoln community for the medal he struck for the Centennial, which was encased in a book with text concerning the medal’s origin and symbolism; it was known for its realism and accuracy (also in stock). Yet, this small plaquette has its evocative image so well rendered, that many believe this to be the superior work–we included. Roine’s electrolytically casting methods produced a dramatic difference in detail, as the present example exemplifies.
Excellent; quite scarce!
