Description
The first book by the late Peter Carmichael was this wonderful biography Lee’s Young Artillerist: William R. J. Pegram.
Carmichael wrote this influential examination of a popular and talented young Confederate gunner to illustrate the romantic view Southerners took of their heroes. Pegram fought with a zealous valor based on his religious faith in the righteousness of the Confederate cause. Carmichael shows that Pegram and other young rebels kept their faith in secession and slavery up until death and the example provided a romantic bedrock for the lost cause.
Very good condition. Signed.
